Engineering entrepreneur calls for stepped-up efforts to mentor women in technical fields | STEM Advocate | Scoop.it

Karen Purcell, author of Unlocking Your Brilliance: Smart Strategies for Women to Thrive in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, argues that a lack of focus on encouraging women to enter science, technology, engineering, and math fields is a significant reason for what she says is lagging U.S.performance in fields that call for technical skills. Purcell wants to see both increased efforts to get women into STEM fields and greater mentoring for women in those fields, which will increase technical career retention.

Kids were either prohibited from bringing their phones to school, or at the very least told to shut it off during school hours. But these days, it’s not unusual to hear a teacher say, “Class, turn on your cell. It’s time to work.”
