TUCSON, Ariz. - In contrast to enduring stories about extraordinarily high rates of alcohol misuse among Native Americans, University of Arizona researchers have found that Native Americans' binge and heavy drinking rates actually match those of whites. Native American Council Offers Amnesty to 220 Million Undocumented Whites

Native American Council Offers Amnesty to 220 Million Undocumented Whites | Colorful Prism Of Racism | Scoop.it
A council of Native American leaders has offered partial amnesty to the estimated 220 million illegal white immigrants living in the United States.

At a meeting of the Native Peoples Council (NPC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico yesterday, Native American leaders considered several proposals on the future of this continent's large, unauthorized European population. The elders ultimately decided to extend a pathway to citizenship for those without criminal backgrounds.

"We are prepared to offer White people the option of staying on this continent legally and applying for citizenship," explains Chief Wamsutta of the Wampanoag nation. "In return, they must pay any outstanding taxes and give back the land stolen from our ancestors.

"Any white person with a criminal record, however, will be deported in the next 90 days back to their ancestral homeland. Rush Limbaugh will be going to Germany. Justin Bieber will depart for Canada. And the entire cast of Jersey Shore will be returning to Italy."

Changing the Way We See Native Americans

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In 2013 Matika Wilbur took on a project of massive scope: to photograph members of each Federally recognized tribe in the United States. "My dream," Wilbur says, "is that our children are given images that are more useful, truthful, and beautiful."

Natives Censored on Twitter, By Danielle Miller

Natives Censored on Twitter, By Danielle Miller | Colorful Prism Of Racism | Scoop.it

It is now 2014, but we still have racially offensive sports teams and mascots being used. There are plenty of Native Americans speaking out about these issues on Last Real Indians, and now on twitter. The more Natives join the conversation, the more people report profiles and deny that their voices matter.

There have been many Natives tweeting with anticipation for a twitter storm for “Change the Name” and it has now been brought to our attention that we will have to find a new strategy to simply share our opinions, because our movement will be filtered as spam.  This is highly frustrating and unethical. So many other racial groups and individuals have used twitter as a tool to trend their ideas, and yet Native Americans are being censored.

Mormon History and Indian History

Mormon History and Indian History | Colorful Prism Of Racism | Scoop.it

The problem with Mormon history is that it focuses on Mormons. I make this paradoxical statement to intentionally overstate the case—but there is some truth to it.

Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

When an entire Native American community, their neighbors, disappears, it doesn't get a mention in the annals of history, the stories of the past.

As Compton writes," the story of “the west” is more than the story of English-speaking European whites heroically exploring and settling it." While victors get to tell their stories, write the histories, what happened in the past did ocurr.

Compton says, "While telling the Indian’s side of the story will undoubtedly add an element of stark tragedy to our narrative, such a compound historical lens will be an important characteristic of a mature, holistic Mormon history." Important words for any one, group or individual, to remember.

The Indians who first feasted with the English colonists were far more sophisticated than you were taught in school. But that wasn't enough to save them

...Europeans had been visiting New England for at least a century. Shorter than the Natives, oddly dressed and often unbearably dirty, the pallid foreigners had peculiar blue eyes that peeped out of bristly, animal-like hair that encased their faces. They were irritatingly garrulous, prone to fits of chicanery and often surprisingly incompetent at what seemed to Indians like basic tasks.

President Obama Just Nominated the Very First Native American Woman For Federal Judge

President Obama Just Nominated the Very First Native American Woman For Federal Judge | Colorful Prism Of Racism | Scoop.it

Diane J. Humetewa, a member of the Hopi tribe and former U.S. attorney in Arizona, has beennominated to serve on the U.S. District Court for the district of Arizona as a federal judge. If confirmed, she would be the first active member of a Native American reservation, and first Native American woman to serve as a federal judge. Not only would this bring more diversity to the federal bench, but Arizona’s prominent Native community will finally be represented in a state that is infamous for ignoring Native issues.

A few years ago, Aaron Huey journeyed to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to photograph members of the Oglala Lakota Nation. The disarming stories of deceit, heartbreak, and violence he heard there changed his life forever.
