International Membership Rotary Club Works Wonders in San Ignacio | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

This article mentions many of the Rotary projects in Cayo.  The mention the Rafael Cal scholarships, the clean water projects, and the recently completed drainage project at SHC is highlighted.

"An example of an international effort that had a wide ranging effect is the Drainage and Mosquito Borne Disease Education Project, just completed this fall...Sacred Heart College, sits at a low spot in the town as the water drains to the Mopan River. During the rainy season, the area is inundated with a great deal of rain, often in multiple inches. The water ran through the campus or sat on the ground for days, creating breeding grounds for disease carrying mosquitoes...

During the installation of the drainage system, it became clear the town authorities needed to assist with connecting and re-working the drainage coming into and out of the campus.
The end result was a drainage solution that helped an entire neighborhood and eliminated more areas of standing water to thwart breeding mosquitos."
