Video of the day.  Rebecca Stirm has a behind the scenes video out for Earth Day, and she has a dress made with organic materials, like fungus.  She has the talented Vanessa Awe doing makeup.  It was shot around Roaring Creek, near Guanacaste National Park.  Well done.

Monica Gallardo posted some pictures, and here are the fashion shots, on her blog from the shoot.

Angela Casey Receives Meritorious Service Award

Angela Casey Receives Meritorious Service Award | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Congratulations to Angela Casey for receiving the Meritorious Service Award!  Thanks for all your great contributions, Mrs. Casey.

"A teacher for forty-three years, Mrs. Angela Therese Casey has touched the lives of over five thousand children from Belmopan and surrounding areas.  Her journey as a teacher began after receiving her Teacher’s diploma from the Belize Teachers’ College, starting her career as a teacher at the Roaring Creek Roman Catholic Primary School and thereafter various schools throughout Belize.  Mrs. Casey’s legacy, however, is best credited to the Belmopan Community Preschool which she founded in 1983 and for which she was appointed Principal in 1984."

Enter Change Workshop in Roaring Creek

Enter Change Workshop in Roaring Creek | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood story of the day.  Training at risk youths and providing them valuable life skills is a win-win situation.  This is a great story from Plus TV about the Enter Change Workshop.

"It all got started three years ago when Terry Stinson and his wife came on a mission trip to Belize.  The couple returned to Belize a year later from their home back in Bristol Virginia and started an organization by the name of Enter Change Workshop.  Their vision behind the workshop is to train young men from within that community in a trade and sharing the love of God with them at the same time...  Since its inception; approximately 20-25 person have been trained and pass through Enter Change Workshop."

Rowan Continues His Walk Across Belize

Rowan Continues His Walk Across Belize | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Rowan Garel is now out of Cayo, and in the home stretch.  Congratulations, Rowan.  Channel 7 interviewed him while he was in Cayo.

"Through the majestic, rolling hills of the Cayo district - they appear as only a speck on the horizon, figures lost against the broad vista - a slender 14 year old, his friends and followers doing the impossible, the unthinkable - walking from Benque to Belize City.  Well-wishers greet them along the way with gifts and small contributions. Mugging for photos with the 14 year old - who after 20 miles in the unforgiving heat can still muster a smile for his fans.  Walking through Camalote today - Rowan Garel was coming up on 20 miles. But - clutching unto his father Joe for direction - he was still keeping a brisk pace. The prospects of an entire summer programme are riding on these slender shoulders, so he made sure to keep hydrated with his mother Milagro taking a turn on his arm and coming across Roaring Creek Bridge up on the end of today's arduous trek - which ended at Guanacaste Park."

Birding in Cayo

Birding in Cayo | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

There are pictures of Cayo birds all over this article.  From Cahal Pech, to El Pilar, to Roaring Creek, they are well shot.

"We saw both male and female Rose-Throated Becards numerous times as they were adding onto their interesting round nest in a tall tree.  Both birds would fly into the woods, then come back with nesting material to add to the top of the nest.  The nest hole is in the side.  We didn't get a photo of the male, unfortunately, but this photo of the female that Barry took is the clearest bird photo of any he took, I think."

Belizean making waves in Caribbean Fashion Design Competition

Belizean making waves in Caribbean Fashion Design Competition | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Rebecca Stirm, from Roaring Creek, is representing Belize in Mission Catwalk, a reality series that has designers from all over the Caribbean competing for a chance to show their designs during the London Fashion Week.  Rebecca has dazzled the judges so far, and won episode 2's competition, where she had a make a cultural piece, by creating a Mayan and Mestizo inspired dress.  She has already been invited to Caribbean Fashion Week.

We wish Rebecca the best of luck, although, luck has nothing to do with it.  If you'd like to help sponsor her for Caribbean Fashion Week, you can email her at rebeccastirm@gmail.com.  Rebecca is currently back in Belize, getting ready for the next competition, and she gave an interview to Channel 5.

“Oh my goodness, well at first when they took us to the Hope Gardens I was thinking that they would make us make something out of leaves; we’re all like freaking out. But when they walked out in those nightgowns, oh god, and then when they told us thirty minutes, oh god. That was stress and then like I didn’t get any trimmings or anything. I just had the scissors and the needle and just started cutting. It was rush, like as you started thirty minutes was done. It was so fast; everyone was worried about getting eliminated that day.”
