Our People, Food, and Culture - Cayo District

The latest edition of Our People, Food, and Culture is all about Cayo, and things to do and see in the area.  Oxmul Coffee is mentioned, as are Poustinia Art Park and the San Antonio Women's Cooperative.  Rio Frio Cave, Rio On Pools, and Xunantunich are highlighted.  It also sets the stage for the 2nd part, which focuses on Finados, by interviewing David Ruiz.

Part 2 here.,

'In this episode of Our People, Food, and Culture, we learn about the Cayo District’s many natural wonders and its Yucatec Maya heritage through the celebration of Los Finados. Tune in to part 2 at 4:00 p.m. on the BTB Facebook page and the Travel Belize YouTube Channel!'

Cayo in Pictures Slideshow

From the photos to the music, this is a solid slideshow from all over Cayo.  There are tons of pictures from Cahal Pech Resort, the Saturday market, Cahal Pech ruins, and Poustinia Art Park in Benque.  The market pictures and Poustinia pictures are great.  It's not Belizean music, but it goes well with the slideshow.

Benque's Heritage Tour Map

Benque's Heritage Tour Map | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Benque has a really smooth looking, high resolution map on their new website. The Benque Viejo Tourism Committee has a good mission: develop Benque Viejo del Carmen as a unique and attractive destination ensuring sustainable development through responsible tourism that will allow visitors and the local community to benefit from the experience of the local culture and heritage while retaining the small town charm as well as allowing for convenient access to the surrounding attractions.  Now they just need more hotels and restaurants that people can go to after visiting Xunantunich, Actun Chapat, Poustinia Art Part, and Lake Benque.

In related news, Benque has gotten over 2 million dollars from the Belize Municipal Development Project, which they are planning to use to upgrade the sidewalks around Centennial Park and for the paving of some streets which are part of the Heritage Tour.
