The Garifuna Collective will be performing at The Aguada on November 10th for their 3rd annual Garifuna Night. The world famous Garifuna Collective, fresh off their international tour, will once again play here in Cayo. Friday, November 10th.

The Aguada is having their 1st annual Toy Drive next Saturday, December 18th. They'll have a Christmas dinner, and live music to celebrate the occasion.  Luvlace from the Garifuna Collective will be performing, as will Positive Vibez.

Video of the month.  The Garifuna Collective are still on tour, and they performed a great set at the Festival "Colombia Al Parque."  They are showcasing some of the best Central American music around South America.

"Llevan haciendo musica por más de 20 años y en 2018 fue, posiblemente, la agrupación más sorprendente y bailada en Womex, la feria profesional de músicas más importante del mundo, celebrada el año pasado en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Esta agrupación proveniente de Belice guarda fuertes raíces con sus ascendientes afroindígenas provenientes del Caribe, más exactamente de la isla Saint Vincent,quienes fueron exiliados hacia Centroamérica por los británicos en el Siglo XVIII, al huir de la esclavitud. Con el paso de tiempo, durante su carrera artística, la banda ha experimentado y creado nuevas maneras de hacer música a través de ritmos indómitos y las incorporación de toques modernos a sus composiciones, aún manteniendo un fuerte lazo con sus raíces, tradición e identidad."

Video of the day.  Belikin has released another fresh and amazingly shot Onli Eena Belize video, and this one focuses on Sam Harris, who lives here in Cayo, and plays locally with the World Culture Band and internationally with the award winning Garifuna Collective.  Much of the video is the WCB playing at the Soul Project.

Stonetree in the House is the new documentary from Daniel Velazquez, filmed during the day that Stonetree Records spent the day recording at the Soul Project.

In related news, the Soul Project is having Ridley Bent coming all the way from Canada to play on Friday, and Saturday is a Winter Solstice party.

"A documentation of a very creative day with some of Belize international renowned artist, some great Trinidad artist too, it was a video shoot for The Garifuna Collective music and photo shoot for Stonetree records, documented direct cinema style."

The Garifuna Collective will be playing at UB on Thursday, November 16. It's a special event in aid of the President's Endowment Fund.  

'We are thrilled to announce "The Garifuna Collective – Live in Concert," a special event in aid of the President's Endowment Fund. Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the University of Belize Gymnasium.'

Video of the day.  DJ Dalla visited Cayo for episode 3 of Music & Culture.  He took a trip to the Green Iguana Conservation Project, then Xunantunich.  Sam Harris from the Garifuna Collective plays at the base of El Castillo. DJ Flayva from Cloud 9 does a great set, and then the Jade Band performs at Falcon Field.

Congratulations to the Garifuna Collective!  They have topped the Transglobal World Music chart with their new album, Aban.  Well deserved.

The Garifuna Collective have released the first song off of their new album Aban.  It's entitled 'Hamala," which means "Let Him Fly."  Great song, once again, and the video, which was shot in Hopkins, tells a nice story.  Definitely worth a watch.  The Garifuna Collective is currently on their European tour.

Belize is the focus of this year's Cultural Exchange at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, which starts tomorrow.  The Garifuna Collective, TR Shine, Sweet Pain with Chico Ramos and Supa G, and the Wageirale Drummers are some of the Belizean performers.  Hope they have a great time sharing their wonderful music.

"This year, festival goers will have the opportunity to hear music, see demonstrations and learn about the history and customs of the small Caribbean country of about 300,000, which includes people of Maya, Mestizo, Creole, East Indian, Garifuna, Chinese, Lebanese, Mennonite and Caribbean descent. The country was under British rule until 1981. The national language is English."

Cayo was represented well at Oceana's Rock the Vote yesterday at Memorial Park in Belize City.  It was a fantastic concert, and most of the well known Belizean artists came out and performed to support the cause of 'No Offshore Drilling.'

The Garifuna Collective, World Culture Band, Melonie Gillett, Jackie Castillo, Tanya Carter, TR Shine, and many others really rocked the house.  Nello Player, who won the Belize theme competition a few years back, has a new band, and they are incredible.

Musical interlude.  The Garifuna Collective has released the video for Ubou, which means 'the World.'  Another great song!  The video was shot here in Cayo at the Soul Project.
