The Belize Forest Department is teaming up with the San Ignacio Public Library to celebrate the International Day of Forests this Saturday at 9:30am. They'll have presentations and a tree planting. Call 804-0459 for more information.

The Belize Forest Department had its Youth Summer Camp last week, and it was here in Cayo at Sacred Heart College. Looks like the students had a lot of fun while learning about sustainability. They also got to visit the Green Iguana Conservation Project and Bulridge's acreage. Awesome to see.

The Forest 4 Life celebration at Sacred Heart College to celebrate Forest Day was this morning. 

"Forest 4 Life Launch, huge success! Over 1200 students attended the event. 21 outstanding performances from schools from all over the country. What a FOREST DAY CELEBRATION!

This event commemorates this year’s International Forest Day and is geared at listening to young voices of our children as they express why they believe forests are important to their lives and how they can help to protect forests for future generations.

A highlight of the celebration will be the official launch of the Forest 4 Life campaign, an educational and recreational program for young people to learn by doing. At this event, Forest 4 Life youngsters will invite other students to join the movement, so that they too can engage in wise use and true conservation of our forests."

Yesterday was International Jaguar Day.  The Belize Forest Department is Teaming up with the SIPL to teach kids about Jaguars next Saturday the 9th at 10am.  Call 804-0459 for more information.

A 'Green Laws' training, the first of many, was held at the Tropical Education Center for many of the law enforcement officers that routinely help to protect the Chiquibul.  They are focusing on the Wildlife Protection Act and the National Protected Areas System Act.  Great to see continuing education for those on the front lines. 

"Forty-two law enforcement officers, representing the Police Department, Forest Department and its partners, participated in a “Green Laws” training at the Tropical Education Centre on 8th and 9th February 2018. The two-day training, organized by the Belize Forest Department, through the Key Biodiversity Areas project, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officers to combat illegal forest and wildlife crimes. The training is the first in a series of “Green Laws” trainings targeting key law enforcement officials to become verse in the Forests Act CAP 213, the National Protected Areas System Act, No.17 of 2015, and the Wildlife Protection Act, CAP 220 of the Laws of Belize."
