Yum Kaax Archeological Project Breaks Ground at Mopan Technical High School

Video of the month.  Antonio Beardall is interviewed at the groundbreaking ceremony at the Yum Kaax Archaeological Project at Mopan Tech.  Great idea to get Belizean youth involved in archaeology, as it teaches them more about the culture and history of Belize and its original populace.  Chulito Movies puts out some good content.

It was a big week for the SISE House of Culture, as they celebrated International Museum Day, and had a new art exhibit start.  They launched the new exhibit, which is triptych art that was made by Sacred Heart College's 2nd form students.  They also had NICH come in on Wednesday, Thusday, and Friday.  Antonio Beardall and Sherry Gibbs gave presentations to local primary schools about the artifacts found under Burns avenue a few years ago.  The exhibit will continue until March 28th.

Archaeology in the Community Program

Archaeology in the Community Program | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood news of the day.  The U.S. Embassy has teamed up with NICH to create their Archaeology in the Community program, and they are visiting primary schools all over Belize teach the kids more about it.  They visited San Antonio this week.  Hey, that's Antonio there doing some educating!

"The Embassy's Archaeology in the Community program is making its way around Belize! Today, Dr. Jones and Sarah of the U.S. and Dr. Moore and his team of the Institute of Archaeology (NICH) Belize visited the village of San Antonio in the Cayo district. The principal and the teachers wholeheartedly welcomed us to the San Antonio United Pentecostal Primary School. The excitement among the students was contagious!"

The Institute of Archaeology celebrated International Archaeology Day by having an exhibit at their main office in Belmopan.  They got many great pictures of the event and the primary school students that were able to attend it.  Dr. Jaime Awe, Antonio Beardall, and the rest were there celebrating the event and imparting their knowledge of archaeology.  Daniel Meza, of New Life Presbyterian School in Orange Walk, won the poster competition.  Thanks, IA!

International Museum Day at Benque HoC

International Museum Day at Benque HoC | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Benque House of Culture's celebration of International Museum Day was great, and they had a great turnout from the local primary schools.  They launched their new Belizean Heroes and Benefactors exhibit for the occasion.  Antonio Beardall was there from the Institute of Archaeology, and he did a wonderful job of explaining to the students about antiquities, and how we need to preserve the culture and history of Belize.  The Belize Audubon Society was there to give information on their 9 protected areas in Belize, and the National Heritage Library had an interesting display of older books and memorabilia.

"The Benque House of Culture celebrated International Museum Day by inviting all the local schools out for events and presentations, and the opening of their Belizean Heroes and Benefactors exhibit."
